The wide-ranging impact of the recently enacted Affordable Care Act (ACA) remains uncertain.
Since personalized care physicians are not only medical professionals but employers as well, it is smart business to understand the potential ACA implications both medically and from an employer perspective.
The mandate to provide affordable insurance coverage or be subject to a financial penalty applies to employers with more than 50 full-time equivalent employees. Therefore, physicians who own or are affiliated with small medical practices currently will not be directly affected. However, all small employers are indirectly affected as the cost of health insurance coverage continues to rise. Whether this trend has been exacerbated by the ACA, or is simply a continuing trend from the past, remains open for debate.
