Eleven Specialdocs Physician Clients Honored as National Leaders in Concierge Medicine

Eleven physician-clients of Specialdocs have been honored as 2025-26 Top Physician Leaders in Concierge Medicine by Concierge Medicine Today (CMT), the industry’s oldest and most respected trade publication. This prestigious biennial award spotlights physicians across the country who have made significant contributions to the growth and evolution of membership-based medicine through their bold leadership, innovative approaches to practice management, and dedication to personalized patient care. Physicians named to the list are noted for embracing risk, fostering a culture of self-directed excellence within their practice, and leveraging their gifts, skills, and strengths for the benefit of their patients and communities, according to CMT.

“We are so proud of these outstanding physicians, whose dedicated leadership continues to help define and elevate concierge medicine,” says Andrew Bonner, Vice President of Business Development for Specialdocs, a leading concierge medicine consulting and management company. “From launching the first membership medicine model in their community, to thoughtfully expanding their reach, to recognizing the opportunity for success with specialty applications, these doctors have made a genuine impact. All have helped reimagine the patient experience by providing the type of care everyone deserves but few receive – prompt, responsive, empathetic and deeply personalized.”

Says CMT editor Michael Tetreault, “These top doctors have remarkable stories, have built thriving practices, have generous and charitable spirits, and carry a unique message that can provide valuable lessons for any physician-leader.”  Importantly, there is no fee or purchase required to be named to the list, underscoring the integrity of this honor.

Specialdocs-affiliated clients recognized as a Top Physician Leader in Concierge Medicine include:

Uday Jani, MD founded the first concierge practice in southern Delaware, Shoreview Personalized Medical Care, more than a decade ago. He offers a blend of traditional and integrative medicine, with extended visits that address every aspect of well-being, from sleep and nutrition to activity and spirituality. “True health is about forming a community around you. Concierge medicine has allowed me the time to be part of my patients’ lives, and invite them to be part of mine.”

Shalini Kaneriya, MD, founded Lifetime Internal Medicine in northern VA in 2018 and built a culture of integrity and accountability in a patient-centered, concierge environment. She has expanded her practice with two like-minded physicians who share her non-formulaic approach to care: “We fully explore each patient’s health goals and motivations, and provide them with the resources to live as long and as healthily as possible.”

Irene Kazmers, MD, established membership-based Northern Michigan Rheumatology after more than 45 years in practice, positively impacting her life, and the experience of those around her. “From the first night of being a concierge physician I was able to sleep well, knowing my patients were being better served, my staff was happier, and I could continue to practice as a rheumatologist within today’s challenging landscape of medicine.”

Richard Larew, MD opened the first concierge practice in Iowa City in 2019, and pandemic notwithstanding, has thoughtfully grown each year. The key was continually and patiently educating the community on his approach. “People were accustomed to coming in just when they were sick, so the idea of spending time talking about how to improve things and extend their healthspan, was a very different way of thinking about care.”

Dara Lee Lewis, MD is a cardiologist at Boston’s Lown Group concierge practice, an award-winning Harvard Medical School instructor, and a powerful advocate for non-invasive techniques to prevent and manage cardiac disease. “Our aim is to encourage and empower patients to care for themselves before heart disease develops.” As an integral member of the physician team, she’s helped drive Lown Group’s expansion in 2025 to a multi-specialty practice offering concierge cardiology and internal medicine.

Angela Marshall, MD, FACP is committed to helping achieve health equity as author of her best-selling book Dismissed: Tackling the Biases That Undermine Our Health Care, as an in-demand industry speaker, and as founder of Maryland-based Comprehensive Concierge Care in 2023. “Eliminating bias begins by connecting with a patient’s humanity and understanding their feelings, hopes, and dreams. My goal is to encourage physicians to continually strive to reach beyond our differences and create deeply meaningful human connections.”

Nan Monahan, MD, founded Buckhead Internal Medicine in Atlanta in 2017 to provide the best patient experience possible and restore her love for medicine. Since that time she has successfully recruited two additional physicians and built the practice into a local treasure. While she offers tech-forward services such as body composition testing, she feels strongly that while “technology is always evolving, there are certain aspects of healthcare that should never change. I value meaningful relationships and service excellence with the all-important personal touch.”

John Moultrie, MD, launched his Buckhead, Atlanta concierge practice at age 37, realizing early on the impossibility of adequately caring for his burgeoning panel of more than 6,000 patients. “I never felt I was too young to convert to concierge medicine. The short-term risk is well worth the long-term reward of spending most of your career practicing medicine and building relationships with patients the way you always envisioned.”

David Oyer, MD, launched one of the country’s first concierge endocrinology practices in 2010, when only 3,5000 physicians practiced personalized medicine, and even fewer were sub-specialists. Dr. Oyer, however, saw tremendous potential to make a difference at his Chicago-based practice. “I believe the greatest unmet need for the relationship between the diabetic patient and his/her physician is more time. Concierge medicine offers quality time to take care of diabetes as well as practice preventative medicine.” He also took the time to mentor a newly graduated resident who joined the team in 2015 and is now a thriving concierge internist.

Jeff Puglisi, MD co-founded Glenville Medical Concierge Care in CT with his partners in 2015, creating a prominent local presence, and becoming a national advocate for personalized medicine. “The level of care and availability we’ve been able to offer our concierge members has exceeded all expectations. This model is enormously satisfying to both physician and patient, and there’s nothing I would like to see more than for it to be seen as the norm rather than the exception. As a concierge physician I work harder than ever…the difference is that I’m making a difference.”

Elizabeth Walton, MD, Piedmont Internal Medicine (PIM) Atlanta, converted to the concierge model in 2022 while staying with her fee-for-service group. She found almost immediate acceptance from patients as they quickly signed on for comprehensive, hassle-free healthcare. Inspired by Dr. Walton’s restored professional and personal satisfaction, many of her partners ultimately opted to make the change as well, and by early 2025, seven physicians were practicing in the concierge model at PIM.
‘Concierge doctors are truly the salt of the earth,” Tetreault concludes, “some of the brightest minds and kindest people you can find. We are fortunate to have them on the other side of the exam room!”
